Before the euro became their official currency, Germans paid for their bratwurst with what?

Before the adoption of the euro, Germans used the Deutsche Mark (often abbreviated as DM or D-Mark) to pay for their bratwurst. Introduced in 1948 to replace the nearly worthless Reichsmark, the Deutsche Mark became a global symbol of West Germany’s post-war “Economic Miracle” due to its incredible stability and value. One mark was divided into 100 smaller units called Pfennigs, and the currency remained the pride of the nation through reunification in 1990 until it was finally phased out for euro banknotes and coins in early 2002.
