What group started out as Linda Ronstadt’s backing band?
The iconic rock band that started out as Linda Ronstadt’s backing band is The Eagles.
In early 1971, while assembling a new touring band, Linda Ronstadt and her manager recruited several talented musicians from the burgeoning Southern California folk-rock scene, including Glenn Frey and Don Henley. They were soon joined by Randy Meisner and Bernie Leadon. The four musicians briefly toured and recorded with Ronstadt, but the chemistry they developed playing together was so immediately and undeniably strong that they soon approached Ronstadt for her blessing to form a separate band.
This new group, which officially formed later in 1971, signed with David Geffen’s Asylum Records and quickly became The Eagles, going on to become one of the most commercially successful and influential American rock bands of all time. Ronstadt often credits herself with playing a key role in their formation, having brought the original members together for the first time.
