Which actress and inventor is often referred to as “the Mother of Wi-Fi”?Answer

The actress and inventor often referred to as “the Mother of Wi-Fi” is Hedy Lamarr. While she was celebrated in Hollywood’s Golden Age for her breathtaking beauty and captivating screen presence, her secret passion was for invention, a talent that lay hidden for decades.

During World War II, driven by a desire to help the Allies, Lamarr, who had gained technical knowledge from her first husband, a wealthy Austrian munitions manufacturer, began brainstorming ways to defeat the Axis powers. She partnered with her neighbor, avant-garde composer George Antheil, to develop a “Secret Communication System.” Their invention used a concept called “frequency hopping” to make radio-controlled torpedoes undetectable and unjammable by enemies. Their system worked by having both the torpedo and its controller rapidly switch frequencies in a synchronized, seemingly random pattern, much like a player piano roll.
