The creation of the iconic superhero Batman is officially credited to both artist Bob Kane and writer Bill Finger.

While Bob Kane received the sole creator credit for decades due to the terms of his initial contract with DC Comics (then National Periodicals), that narrative is incomplete. Kane brought the original concept of a bat-inspired hero to DC.

However, it was Bill Finger who fundamentally shaped the character into the Dark Knight recognizable today. Finger is credited with suggesting the cowl, the scalloped cape, the darker costume, the lack of eyeholes in the mask, and even the hero’s civilian identity, Bruce Wayne.
