Which male animated character is voiced by a woman? Answer
For more than three decades, the mischievous, spiky-haired Bart Simpson has been a cultural icon, and behind his instantly recognizable voice is the actor Nancy Cartwright. In a practice that is common within the animation industry, a female actor provides the voice for a young male character.
Cartwright’s work on the character began with a series of shorts that aired on The Tracey Ullman Show in 1987. After initially auditioning for the part of Lisa Simpson, she found the character of Bart more appealing and, with the approval of creator Matt Groening, she was given the role on the spot. Her distinct voice has remained a constant for the character through all of the show’s seasons.
