Mars, commonly referred to as the Red Planet, possesses two small, oddly shaped moons known as Phobos and Deimos. Unearthed in 1877 by American astronomer Asaph Hall, these moons are thought to have originated as captured asteroids from the neighboring asteroid belt. Phobos, the larger of the pair, circles Mars at such proximity that its movement across the sky appears rapid, completing its orbit in just a few hours. Over time, it is gradually spiraling inward and is projected to disintegrate or collide with the planet in tens of millions of years. Deimos, smaller and positioned farther away, displays a smoother surface and moves at a more relaxed pace in its orbit.
