In the United States, the two states that maintain a consistent clock throughout the year are Hawaii and Arizona. Hawaii opted out of the Uniform Time Act in 1967 because its tropical latitude near the equator results in very little seasonal variation in daylight, making a time shift practically useless for its residents. Similarly, most of Arizona has remained on Mountain Standard Time since 1968, though for a much different reason: the extreme desert heat. By not “springing forward,” Arizonans allow the sun to set earlier in the evening, providing a bit of cooler relief during the blistering summer months.
