Fort Bragg, situated in North Carolina, stands as the most densely populated U.S. military base, accommodating more than 238,000 service members, families, and civilians. Initially founded in 1918 as an artillery training site, it was named after Confederate general Braxton Bragg. Amid debates surrounding Confederate symbols, the base was rechristened Fort Liberty in 2023. However, in 2025, the U.S. Army reinstated the original name Fort Bragg, this time in tribute to World War II paratrooper Roland L. Bragg.
