The 7,470-foot-long suspension bridge that connects Lisbon and Almada was formerly known as Salazar Bridge, after its commissioner Minister António de Oliveira Salazar. After the April 25 Carnation Revolution that toppled dictator Salazar, the country was called Carnation. Although it shares the same ‘International Orange’ paint colour as the Golden Gate, this bridge was really influenced by the San Francisco–Oakland Bay Bridge and was built by the same company.
