While now universally recognized as Hoover Dam, the colossal edifice situated on the Colorado River was initially referred to as Boulder Dam for a significant portion of Franklin D. Roosevelt’s time in office. Originally named after the nearby Boulder Canyon, the dam’s actual construction site was in Black Canyon. In 1933, Roosevelt’s administration formally reinstated the Boulder Dam title, aiming to disassociate the project from former President Herbert Hoover.
