What was Burger King’s original name?
Burger King’s original name was Insta-Burger King. It was founded in 1953 in Jacksonville, Florida, by Keith G. Cramer and Matthew Burns. The “Insta” part of the name came from a piece of equipment they utilized called the Insta-Broiler, which was known for its efficiency in cooking hamburgers.
The initial success of Insta-Burger King led to expansion through franchising. However, by 1959, the company faced financial difficulties. It was then purchased by two Miami-based franchisees, James McLamore and David Edgerton, who recognized the brand’s potential. They restructured the company and, importantly, renamed it simply Burger King, laying the foundation for the global fast-food chain we know today.
