In light of the numerous geographical challenges along the proposed route, the “Impossible Railroad” moniker was applied to the project almost immediately after its inception. As for the bridges, there are 17 tunnels and 14 trestles. The Goat Canyon Trestle in Carrizo Gorge stood out the most. The last time somebody crossed this wooden bridge was in 2008, but it’s still there today. The bridge has been inactive before, but it is possible that trains will once again use it in the future.
