Which author won a Nobel, Pulitzer, and Presidential Medal of Freedom?
John Steinbeck, a titan of American literature, was indeed the recipient of two of the nation’s most prestigious literary awards. He was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction in 1940 for his masterpiece, The Grapes of Wrath, a powerful novel about a family of Oklahoma tenant farmers displaced by the Dust Bowl. He later went on to win the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1962 for his realistic and socially conscious narratives.
Another acclaimed American author, Toni Morrison, also earned both of these distinguished prizes. She received the Pulitzer Prize in 1988 for her haunting novel Beloved and was then honored with the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1993.
