Who is credited with designing the current 50 star version of the United States flag? Explained
Robert G. Heft is acknowledged for creating the current 50-star rendition of the United States flag at the age of 17 as part of a high school history assignment in 1958. During this period, Alaska had recently joined as the 49th state, and Hawaii’s statehood was on the horizon. To include a 50th state, Heft reorganized the stars into a fresh layout and personally stitched the prototype. Despite initially receiving a B- grade for the project, President Dwight D. Eisenhower’s official adoption of Heft’s flag on July 4, 1960, led to an upgrade of Heft’s grade to an A.
